Meditation on the Styx
Once there was a time when the Russian village was a huge world, full of life, uniting Russia with its endless lands. But during the last hundred years this world was being destroyed to its last little part and it became clenched and receded being condemned to. People went there, where it was simpler to survive, and endless spaces grew wild and overgrown with forests. Generations changed one another, vague memory vanished and here some bushes of a new unknown reality are growing from a stump of a ruined tree. And the deadly tranquility is falling over the old village and it is going slowly towards the other shore, being once again absorbed by nature.

Photos shot on black-and-white film from 2009 to 2012 in the east of the Novgorod region (about 400 kilometers from St. Petersburg).
